Chair no.1
Prague

2015
Chair no. 1 was an opportunity to develop a new and more ambitious way of thinking and working with pallet wood. It is more of an experiment than a product, currently existing as a stand alone piece only.

The idea was to mimic the pallet furniture in the way the pieces bulkily clutch to each other while creating a more elegant design version in turn. I was inspired by Danish furniture design, the way the back legs taper back and the way the seat seems to float on the rails which are revealed towards the back. I experimented on mortise and tenoning the seat into the rails. All joints were made with the structural components themselves, except for four pins on each leg, two at the top, fastening the legs to the rail, and two at the bottom where the tapering legs meet. The pins were milled out of the same wood.
